DisabilityGuide.org/National Gallery of Art Acessibility Victory!
In a November 8th letter to Russ Holt of DisabilityGuide.org and the
Endependence Center of Northern Virginia, the National Gallery of Art has agreed to move the Salvador Dali painting, "The Sacrament Of The Last Supper" to an accessible spot. Widely considered to be the gallerys most prized painting, the piece was placed, since its acquisition, on a wall which was down a staircase and thus inaccessible to individuals who could not use stairs.
During a review for DisabilityGuide.org, Holt pointed
out the situation to National Gallery of Art curator Jeffrey Weiss,
who thanked him for "...bringing this matter to our attention". Weiss
said that "...the painting would be moved from its current inaccessible location to the ground floor of the West Building". Mr.Weiss and the National Gallery of Art are to be commended for rectifying the situation promptly.
Kudos to Russ Holt and www.disabilityguide.org for pushing the National Gallery!
