Seeking Personal Stories
Not Merely Players, a not-for-profit professional theatre by, for, and of
men, women, and children with disabilities, is seeking personal stories by persons with a "disability," the best of which Not Merely Players shall use in a full-length play for the 2003-2004 season.
The stories sought are about the lives and times and bumps in the night of persons living with a "disability." Intensely personal and razor's edge; words that raise high the roof beams: discrimination, abuse, loneliness, neglect. A line spoken by John Merritt in the film, "The Elephant Man," inspired the play: "I am not an animal. I am a human being!"
