Coordinating Human Services Transportation
The U.S. House Transportation and Education and the Workforce Committees held a joint hearing on May 1, 2003 to examine ways to better coordinate human-service transportation programs. Individuals who participate in human service programs, such as education, job training, welfare-to-work, health care, or others, must have access to these programs. The Committees examined the various transportation programs that are available to program recipients, and explored ways to better coordinate these transportation programs. Federal officials from the Departments of Transportation, Health and Human Services, Education, and Labor testified before the Committees. The National Council on Disability (NCD) testified about the issues that people with disabilities face while trying to access public transportation. See the copy of the NCD testimony.
