Interested in the Charter School Movement?
A charter school is a public school, or a private school chartered by a public authority, with more independence and flexibility than a traditional public school.
Charter schools are not for everyone. Make sure you learn about your state charter-school rules. Every state is different and state education departments tend to be confusing. All charter schools must provide services for children with disabilities. Some schools have had difficulty obtaining special education funding from the state, which has proven to be problematic.
A resource for stand-alone charter schools is the Wisconsin Charter Research Center, phone (414) 288-1540. Additional resources can be found at on the Institute for the Transformation of Learning Web site under What is School Choice? Basic Facts by clicking "Charter Schools."
