NEW YORK, May, 2001 - AFB Press, the publishing arm of the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) announces the release of the 26th edition of the AFB Directory of Services for Blind and Visually Impaired Persons in the United States and Canada.

Long considered an essential resource, the AFB Directory of Services has been completely revised and updated. Available in both print and electronic versions, the Directory represents the most comprehensive collection of information on services for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. In addition to descriptive listings for the more than 1,500 key state agencies and resources, the 26th edition contains a guide to terminology used in this field, 45 new indexes, and profiles of products and technology used by people who are visually impaired, their families, and the professionals who serve them. The electronic edition, available soon on the AFB Web site, provides the same valuable information as the print edition, and also encompasses multi-selection searches, keyword search, printable profiles, and live links to agency Web sites.

"For those already in the field of blindness and visual impairment, for those new to the field, and for practitioners and policymakers in related disciplines, the Directory of Services provides the most comprehensive collection of information on services for blind and visually impaired individuals available," said Carl R. Augusto, AFB president and CEO.
