RIDE Project
-
The RIDE Project began in 1995 with two goals; 1.) to enhance existing child find efforts in target school districts that are members of the Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative, by developing and disseminating a multi-faceted awareness package. The package consists of parent information booklets available in English and Spanish, posters, and a 12 minute video geared towards professionals who have contact with young children(3 - 5 year olds) and their families. The video covers early indicators and risk factors that may indicate a need for early intervention services; 2.) to develop local capacity in target districts, in the delivery of assistive technology services and devices. The project helps school districts develop assistive technology teams by providing intensive trainings, on-site support services, and technical assistance. Project staff provide on-site assistive technology assessments and follow-up on recommendations. The project established a central lending library of assistive devices and software that is located at the Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative. The lending library allows school districts to "try out" devices before purchasing them to make sure that they meet the child's needs.
