For Job Seekers

United Cerebral Palsy is proud to offer our customers customized employment services. We recognize that every person is an individual with unique needs and interests. We will take the time necessary to learn about you, your skills, interests, and dreams. We believe these are critical steps in finding the perfect job match for you.

Job Develoment:

We can assist you to:

  • Fill out applications
  • Write a resume and cover letter
  • Contact employers
  • Prepare for an interview
  • Attend an interview
  • Negotiate accomodations

On-Site Work Experience:
  • Sometimes it is hard to know exactly what kind of job you want to do. That's why UCP offers on-site work experience.
  • During an on-site work experience, people with disabilities have the opportunity to perform a job they are interested in for 4-8 hours.
  • This is an unpaid experience, with no promise of being hired. However, most people who elect to receive this service say it helped them to decide what they really wanted to do.

Job Carving:

  • Job carving is often referred to as job restructuring. In this situation, we examine the job duties of current employees to see if some duties could be moved to a new employee.
  • We restructure tasks by focusing on the skills and qualifications of the person with disabilities. We also ensure the new structure meets the needs of the employer.
  • Often companies find this makes good business sense because it frees up existing employees who now can be accomplishing additional tasks.
Job Creation:

  • Sometimes people with disabilities possess specialized areas of expertise. If there isn't a job that exactly fits your qualifications, we will work with an employer to create a job that didn't exist before.
On-the-Job Support and Training:

  • Our job coach will provide on the job support and training so that you can eventually fulfill your job duties independently.

Retraining:

  • Our job coach is available to return to the job site if you need to be retrained, or trained to do new tasks.
Ongoing Support:

  • After you have been working independently for a while, and the job coach has been off-site, you may come across a reason to want her there again. Our job coach is available to support you at your work when the need arises.
