United Cerebral Palsy of Central Pennsylvania (UCP Central PA) in conjunction with area libraries, has established Accessible Internet Workstations throughout Central PA.
The Technology Opportunities Program (TOP) of the United States Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) awarded grants to 74 non-profit organizations, including state and local governments across the United States and Puerto Rico.
TOP grants are matched by $46.7 million in contributions from the private sector and state and local organizations. Their purpose is to extend the benefits of advanced telecommunications technologies to underserved communities and neighborhoods.
In addition to $345,055 from Technology Opportunities Program (TOP) and the support from LAM Systems, the UCP Tech Central project has received funding from the AMP Foundation, the Bellows Foundation and a private trust donation. Total project funding is $437,205
The workstations are equipped with a variety of software and hardware that allows people with a variety of limitations to access the Internet. Workstation features include a variety of mice and keyboard options, scanning, screen magnification, screen reading, and an adjustable height table. The workstations are available during regular library hours or can be reserved.
