The Adaptive Arts Program offers art classes in drawing, painting and sculpture to adults with disabilities living in community, as well as the hospital setting. Through the use of adaptive tools artists learn to work with their physical and/or developmental Abilities to express themselves artistically.

Benefits of the Art Program:

• Healing Benefit: Art is a right brain activity, which stimulates the production of endorphins, the body's own natural healers. Science has proven that the production of endorphins lowers blood pressure and reduces anxiety. In addition, the process of creating art increases range of motion and fine motor skills.
• Emotional/Spiritual Benefit: Self-esteem can be raised through the intergration with and contribution to, the betterment of community through the arts.
• Practical: Making art is fun and gives the artist the opportunity to earn income.

UCP Rhode Island offers individualized arts instruction in all media for people with disabilities and, on a space available basis, for people who are not disabled.
