Early Intervention
What is Early Intervention?
Early Intervention defines services to young children (0-5) in partnership with their families that are designed to identify and treat a developmental delay as early as possible. Early Intervention builds a foundation for future learning by focusing on all areas of development including: cognitive, communication, fine motor, large motor, self-help skills, and social-emotional.

Why is Early Intervention Important?
A person’s ability to learn and develop is greater from birth to 6 than at any other time. Maximum readiness for learning many developmental skills takes place in the first years of life. If these windows of opportunity are not taken advantage of, a child may have a more difficult time learning a skill at a later date.

How Can Early Intervention and UCP’s Children’s Program help my family and my child?

UCP CAN:

  • Help you understand your child’s growth and development
  • Enhance your child’s development
  • Help in identifying your child’s strengths and needs
  • Support you in your role as a parent
  • Connect you with resources
  • Decrease the degree of developmental services your child might need later in life
  • Provide a smooth transition to preschool and/or kindergarten.

How will I be involved in my child’s Early Intervention Services through UCP’s Children’s Program?
Services through UCP’s Children’s Program are a partnership between families and providers. You are the most important person in your child’s life. The information you provide regarding your child’s strengths and needs as well as your family’s concerns will help us to know your child and understand our role in his/her development. The Children’s Program staff will be able to provide you with ideas and skills that will support you in helping your child meet the developmental milestones you would like him/her to meet.
