INTERVIEW TIPS

There are several books and websites that offer tips on how to find a job, how to ace an interview, how to sell yourself to the potential employer, etc. Common sense is probably the most useful tool you can utilize. Surprisingly, many people do not follow the basic guidelines of courtesy and preparation.

  1. Show up on time—make sure you know where the interview is located
  2. Dress appropriately in clean clothes (no wrinkles, rips, or holes in clothing). This is not the time to wear tight, revealing, or beach outfits.
  3. Make sure you look and smell clean
  4. Know who is interviewing you and what position you are interviewing for with the company
  5. Bring a copy of your resume with you, even if you have already given one to the company
  6. Greet the interviewer positively
  7. Show interest and be attentive during the interview
  8. Have questions prepared to ask the interviewer regarding the position
  9. Thank the interviewer for his or her time at the end of the interview
  10. Mail a thank you letter to the interviewer again thanking him or her for their time and sum up one important aspect of the interview. This will refresh their memory of you—and not only will it show that you are a polite person—but it may be the extra push required to get you that job.

These are very basic suggestions on how to interview appropriately. For more in-depth information and tips for the entire job search procedure, please see Links. These links will enable you to search through job listing databases, tips on finding employment, and online assessments.
