United Cerebral Palsy Launches a New Vision for the Future (10/08/07)
Washington, DC, October 8, 2007 – Emmy-nominated actress Cheryl Hines, an United Cerebral Palsy Board Trustee, along with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and Senator Tom Harkin, will help introduce the Life Without Limits Project, a remarkable new vision of the future that will fundamentally change the lives of people with disabilities, at events held in our nation’s capital on October 4.
At a luncheon briefing, Congressional and business leaders will join together to discuss this new vision of the future, and begin to understand the role we all will play in this new reality. Spearheaded by United Cerebral Palsy (UCP), the Life Without Limits Project is a national effort to raise public awareness about the serious challenges that remain for people with disabilities and develop strategies, initiatives, programs, and public policy to address them.
In the evening, United Cerebral Palsy will honor Alegent Health for their invaluable commitment to the Life Without Limits Project and for their outstanding dedication to advancing life without limits for people with all disabilities. "Alegent Health's mission for more than 120 years has been to provide high quality care for the body, mind and spirit of every person, paying special attention to the needs of the most vulnerable among us,” said Wayne Sensor, CEO Alegent Health. “It's therefore been an incredible honor to work with UCP to advance a life without limits for people with disabilities, lifting them up and empowering them to live lives of meaning and purpose."
In addition, UCP will honor U.S. Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Arlen Specter (R-PA) for their efforts in pursuing legislation that benefits people with disabilities, particularly for their co-sponsorship of the ADA Restoration Act of 2007, a bill that would clarify the original intent of the ADA and ensure that every American with a disability is protected from discrimination.
“Every person deserves to live a life free of prejudice and fear,” said Stephen Bennett, President and CEO of United Cerebral Palsy (UCP). “That’s what the Life Without Limits Project is all about – enabling all people, with or without a disability, to live full, independent and productive lives.”
