Duncan Wyeth to Receive Image Award on Behalf of UCP
Washington, D.C., April 3, 2002 — UCP Vice President Duncan Wyeth will receive the Rick Douglas Advocacy Award from dateable for his work as a disability leader and advocate. The ceremony will take place on April 10, 2002, at the Monarch Hotel in Washington, D.C. at 6:30 p.m.
Mr. Wyeth will receive the award on behalf of the UCP Public Education Campaign and his work on the UCP Marketing and Communications Committee.
“UCP’s logo includes the tagline understanding disabilities and creating opportunities,”
said Wyeth. “Dateable does this everyday in a social context and I am honored to receive this award.”
The Public Education Campaign serves to redefine images and attitudes of people with disabilities through public service announcements (PSAs). The PSAs have aired over 6,200 times on television and over 25,000 times on radio throughout the country. Six print advertisements have appeared in publications, on buses and billboards, and in newspaper inserts across the country.
dateable provides dating and friendship opportunities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for people with and without disabilities. Members participate in a wide range of social and recreational events, seminars and workshops.
UCP is comprised of 110 affiliates in 38 states and Washington, D.C., that offer a broad array of programs and services for people with disabilities, such as employment services, early intervention programs, assistive technology training, individual and family support, employment assistance, and advocacy. 65% of the consumers served by UCP affiliates have disabilities other than cerebral palsy. UCP is one of the nation’s most efficient charities, with a system wide average of 85% of all revenues going to programs and services.
