UCP-Supported Coalition Testifies for Patients' Rights in Managed Care Plans

On April 24, the UCP-supported Patient Access Coalition - a group of nearly 70 national consumer and provider associations - testified before the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, urging strong, enforceable rights for patients enrolled in managed care plans. Read the testimony now.

Congress is expected to act soon on this issue. The leading bill, HR 526 in the House and an identical Senate bill, S 283, has been endorsed by UCP, the Patient Access Coalition and most members of the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities. This bill's chief sponsors are Sens. McCain (R-AZ), Edwards (D-NC) and Kennedy (D-MA) and Reps. Ganske (R-IA) and Dingell (D-MI). But Senate Republican leaders continue to oppose it.
