ADA Information: General Information

It's Tax Time!

Red, white and blue disAbility.gov logo with star and stripesIt's tax time again and you still may be unclear about how to file or what deductions you are allowed. The government site disAbility.gov has expanded their content to include tax information pertinent to tax filers with a disability. Black and white IRS logoVisit disAbility.gov or the IRS Web site to to find the answers to your tax questions.

In addition, if you have a child with a severe learning disability, ADHD, or other physical, mental or emotional impairments, you may also qualify for tax benefits. Because tax laws are complex, and many tax preparers often do not have occasion to use these unique tax benefits, families are at risk of losing refunds worth many thousands of dollars. A guide from Schwab Learning provides a brief summary of the most significant tax benefits. Check with your tax preparer for details.

If you are a small business owner, you may also want to review the ADA Guide for Small Businesses (text, PDF), which includes a small piece at the end (page 18 of the PDF version) regarding possible tax deductions for businesses complying with the ADA.
