Statement from Stephen Bennett, President and CEO of United Cerebral Palsy, on the Death of Christopher Reeve (10/11/04)

Contact: Elizabeth Reitz of United Cerebral Palsy

Washington, D.C., October 11, 2004 — United Cerebral Palsy and all Americans with disabilities mourn the sudden death of Christopher Reeve yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Reeve family, staff and friends of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation and all who mourn him.

Full of optimism, hope and strength, Mr. Reeve renewed our community’s commitment to explore beyond existing boundaries of medicine and social acceptance. He simply left this world better than he found it.

Even in his passing, Mr. Reeve will continue to inspire the entire United Cerebral Palsy staff and community to push forward in the struggle for full inclusion for people with disabilities.
