UCP Featured in New York Times Article on American Express Foundation

Washington, D.C., November 12, 2001 – UCP (United Cerebral Palsy Associations) is proud to be an officially recognized charity of American Express, especially in its Membership Rewards program, and was noted as such in an article today in the "Giving" section of the New York Times. As part of its public education and awareness campaign, UCP ran one of its print ads in the same section as the article appeared.

The New York Times article focused on American Express’ concept of strategic philanthropy and its efforts to merge the causes of its charitable endeavors with the resources of the business side of the company. The Membership Rewards program allows participants to accumulate points and redeem them for travel certificates, merchandise or donations to various groups.

American Express is a new national corporate partner of UCP. The charity encourages and accepts online donations using the American Express card through its Web site www.ucp.org. Cardholders in several mid-Atlantic states received information about UCP in statements this summer and instructions on how to donate.
