Signal Centers Officially Joins United Cerebral Palsy Associations

Washington, DC, May 6, 1993—Signal Centers, Inc., an agency providing services to adults and children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities, was recognized as a new member affiliate of United Cerebral Palsy Associations, Inc. (UCPA), at UCPA's Annual Conference in Washington, DC, last week.

"Adding Signal Centers to our 160 affiliates nationwide is a great plus for us," said John D. Kemp, UCPA's Executive Director. "With this new affiliate in the Chattanooga area, we have improved the quality of life for people with cerebral palsy and other severe disabilities and their families."

Kemp will be the keynote speaker in Signal Centers' Annual Meeting which will be held on June 18th in conjunction with UCPA's national special event, Casual Day Casual Day TM encourages employees at participating companies to contribute $5 to UCPA for the chance to dress casually for work on June 18th.

Participants also will have an opportunity to attend sessions on advocacy topics such as health care reform, the budget and appropriations, and the reauthorization of the technical act.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of the UCPA family," said Linda McReynolds, Signal Centers' Executive Director. "This affiliation enables us to participate in national events like Casual Day TM, increase our public awareness with tools like the new UCPA public service announcements, and offer our staff educational opportunities through teleconferences and publications like the governmental activities newsletter."

Signal Centers is a United Way agency which offers services for children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities through its early intervention, center based activities and preschool programs.

Family support services offered include parent/training support, toy lending library and Tech Tots a program to increase the technology assistance available to children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities.

UCPA is a nonprofit, charitable organization with a network of 160 local and state affiliates committed to positively affecting the quality of life for persons UCP with cerebral palsy and others with severe disabilities. Last year, Money Research & Educational magazine ranked UCPA as the number one health organization in the country, based on the percentage of dollars spent directly on programs and services.
