Dr. Carl H. Gunderson Named Deputy Director of the United Cerebral Palsy Research and Educational Foundation (5/21/04)

Washington, DC, May 21, 2004 – The United Cerebral Palsy Research and Educational Foundation, the principal non-government sponsor in the United States of research aimed at the prevention of cerebral palsy, recently appointed Dr. Carl H. Gunderson, M.D. as Deputy Director.

Dr. Gunderson, a retired U.S. Army Colonel and a practicing neurologist for over forty-five years, has a wealth of clinical, research, teaching, and leadership experience. Currently, he serves as Special Assistant to the Administrative Director of the National Capital Consortium, Washington, D.C., and a Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Gunderson was also Chief of the Neurology Department at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for sixteen years.

As the Chairman of the Department of Neurology of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences from 1983 to 1998, Dr. Gunderson expanded the curriculum and took an active role in teaching medical students. He has authored many scholarly documents, including the 1990 book Essentials in Clinical Neurology.

Dr. Gunderson received his medical degree at the University of Chicago along with a Masters of Pathology. He is the past Chairman of the Government Services Committee of the American Academy of Neurology and continues to serve on its executive committee.
