United Cerebral Palsy Names Dr. Tim Turnham National Director of Development (08/02/2005)
Washington, DC, August 2, 2005 – United Cerebral Palsy, a leader in national disability issues, has named Tim Turnham, Ph.D., as national Director of Development. Turnham will manage all revenue generating programs for the organization and its national network of affiliates who serve hundreds of thousands of Americans with disabilities and their families each year.
“Tim’s unique fundraising expertise in the areas of health services and research will advance our efforts to meet the demands of a growing national organization,” said Stephen Bennett, President and CEO of United Cerebral Palsy. “We are thrilled to welcome Tim to United Cerebral Palsy.”
For the past five years, Turnham has led fundraising operations at the Washington, DC, Whitman-Walker Clinic, the largest community-based HIV/AIDS service organization in the nation. Leading a team of development professionals, Turnham raised more than $10 million annually.
As Director of Development at the Children’s Research Institute at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC, Turnham raised funds for clinical research affecting cancer, genetic medicine, health services, neuroscience and experimental therapeutics. Dr. Turnham built a successful development program from the ground up as the first fundraising executive for the nationally recognized research institute.
Turnham is an ordained Baptist minister, and led two churches in Mississippi and Maryland for a combined 12 years. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Turnham earned his doctorate in Biblical Ethics at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1984.
“As a pastor, I worked with many families who faced significant challenges, and did so with courage and dignity,” said Turnham. “I look forward to working with the national development staff to provide programs and resources that assist our consumers and affiliates do the same.”
Tim Turnham and his wife, Phyllis, have three college-aged children and live in Maryland.
