His mother, Mary Ann Cooper was the event’s honorary chairwoman.

While Cooper toasted each mother honored at the Hats Off to Mothers event, Marianne Cooper spoke to the group about the joy of raising their 16-year-old son Jesse, who has cerebral palsy.

She told the attendees about how her family fought for access to high-quality education, so Jesse, "the treasure of their lives," could live a productive and fulfilling life.

Cooper, a Kansas City native, recently appeared in the movie Seabiscuit with William H. Macy, a national UCP Trustee and Goodwill Ambassador. Cooper won an Oscar for best supporting actor last year for Adaptation.
