    The American Amputee Foundation Inc., (AAF) began in 1975 as a national information clearinghouse and referral center, serving primarily amputees and their families. AAF researches and gathers information including studies, product information, services, self-help publications, and review articles written within the field. During years past, AAF has helped with insurance claims, justification letters to payers, testimony, life care planning, some financial aid for prosthetic devices. AAF also offers technical help in developing self-help programs, hospital visitations, counseling services, dealing with thousands of telephone inquiries and referrals annually. AAF has self-supporting chapters in locations throughout the nation as well as information on support groups.
