Mission & History

The United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) mission is to advance the independence, productivity and full citizenship of people with disabilities through an affiliate network.

UCP may be the one of the largest health nonprofits in the U.S. today, but that was not the case in 1949. UCP would not be where it is today -- assisting thousands of people with disabilities and their families -- if it had not been for a group of parents who wanted to change the world for their children.

Please view the UCP history in the following videos produced through the support of the Loreen Arbus Foundation and the assistance of UCP of New York City, UCP of Los Angeles, Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties; UCP of Central Florida; UCP of East Central Alabama; Loreen Arbus Productions, Inc. and Linda Lewett (ARTtv).

They explore UCP’s history through the age of the telethon and beyond. You hear from those who were there during that time and those who helped produce the past UCP telethons. The future of UCP is moving onward, toward a Life Without Limits for People with Disabilities™.
