UCP Kids launched the UCP Cares Workshop Series in 2005 in response to requests from families, teachers, and other professionals serving children with disabilities, who wanted a forum to come together to share ideas, problem-solve, and strategize. At UCP Cares workshops, local and national experts speak on issues identified as important to families and professionals. Some past UCP Cares workshop titles include:

  • The Art of Friendship
  • Advocacy – Keep Up the Momentum!
  • Creative Education – The Difference Between
  • Presence and Participation
  • The Power of Play: Recreation and Leisure for All
  • The Secrets to a Successful IEP
  • Siblings, Our First Friends
  • Getting From Here to There: Creating a Vision

While other agencies certainly offer workshops and trainings, generally families and professionals are sporadically invited to workshops on a variety of subjects, with no common goal. What makes the UCP Cares series unique is our constant focus on strengthening community connections for children with disabilities and their families. Each workshop provides strategies and information on increasing interactions between children with disabilities and their peers, and empowers parents and professionals on issues related to community inclusion.

By bringing families, educators and advocates together we are convinced that we can not only learn from each other, but also develop more capacities to create community opportunities for all children.
