UCP plus Hockey equals Disability Awareness and Support
On March 17th game, 50 UCP staff, family, and friends gathered to take in an evening of hockey, entertainment, and community disability awareness and support. The evening’s festivities began when UCP’s Durable Medical Equipment Recipient, Kabel Grammer, decked out in an autographed jersey, dropped the puck to start the game. “This is the best shirt I have ever been given,” said Grammer, who continued to smile ear to ear throughout the entire game.
UCP’s Adult Care Enrichment (ACE) Socialization Group was also on hand, as their monthly outing brought out 20 of the group’s members, Personal Assistants, and family. “It was a blast,” remarked Shannon Baldwin, one of the group’s long-time members. “I couldn’t believe how exciting the game was.” Chris Gano, also a member of ACE Socialization Group, had the exciting opportunity to ride the Zamboni during intermission and further promote UCP’s presence at the game.
While attendance and excitement were at an all-time high, so was the promotion and recognition UCP received during the night. Radio interviews took place before the game with Riverkings’ press department and UCP staff to discuss and educate listeners about UCP programs and services. Also, press releases were to sent to local publications and several announcements were made during the evening to inform the public about what UCP does to help better the surrounding community.
UCP staff, family, friends, and supporters are looking forward to the next sporting, community disability awareness event in May when all are invited to attend the Memphis Redbirds’ Sunday night game on May 17th, 2009. Call Jordyn Matthews for more information, 901-761-4277.
