Dove Villas Quilt

Middle school students create common bonds while designing a paper quilt. A Friendship Paper Quilt made by middle school students at Mt. Pisgah Christian School in Johns Creek, GA was presented to UCP of East Central Florida and the residents of Dove Villas, an assisted living facility in Daytona Beach.

Each student in Susan Reilly's art class chose a resident from Dove Villas and created a special square depicting a joint interest between the student and the resident. For the past three years, Ms. Reilly's art students have created a project to honor a worthy organization. This year, they chose UCP of East Central Florida and Dove Villas, an assisted living facility which is managed by UCP, after they watched an inspirational video about the organization. The video can be seen at www.ucpecf.org.

On Friday, May 8, 2009, the paper quilt was presented by Beth Abernathy, a UCP Board of Director member and Debbie Deck, a Dove Villas Board of Director member. Beth is the sister of both Susan and Martha, a resident of Dove Villas.

UCP of East Central Florida serves more than 600 individuals with both physical and developmental disabilities in six counties. UCP has three main focuses which are to train people to work in the community, to help people secure work, and to help them live independently in the community. UCP also operates two assisted living facilities in Daytona Beach, serving 30 adults.
