Capital Campaign for New Children's Center Ongoing
Architect's rendering of the new Clarks Summit Children's Center
The capital campaign to help finance construction of UCP’s new Clarks Summit Children’s Center kicked off on May 1st with the May Day Soiree held at the Colonnade in Scranton.
The event featured cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, music and a silent auction for items donated by Mount Airy Casino Resort, Patsel’s, Glint of Gold and the Milestone Ranch, among others. Celebrity co-chairs David Falchek, wine columnist for The Times-Tribune and Paul Epsom, owner of Greystone Gardens and host of WNEP’s Home and Backyard, also provided special auction packages.

Plans to replace the current Children’s Center have been in the works for some time. The lower level of the building has been flooded numerous times over the years, and during severe storms, the main floor has been flooded as well. Twice we have had to replace both the furnace and the water heater. We estimate total damages of about a quarter of a million dollars over the years. The current facility will be torn down, with the new structure being built in its footprint, but raised well above the water table. |

Plans are already in place to house both the agency programs – Early Intervention, Lekotek and Compuplay - as well as the other community service providers who occupy the existing building in temporary locations during construction. UCP has secured close to $400,000 through grants and other donations toward the total $1.7 million cost of the project. |
