Gomez Family Thanks UCP
At six months of age the Gomez family received Angelo's diagnosis, Cerebral Palsy. Two and a half years later, Angelo is has progressed beyond their dreams. We are happy to share their letter:
Dear UCP,Our son, Anjelo Vincent Gomez is three years old. At the age of 6-months, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Anjelo was already a member of Valley Mountain Regional Center (VMRC). His service coordinator from VMRC referred him to United Cerebral Palsy’s Early Intervention (EI) Program. Services were provided through UCP’s EI team that included occupational and physical therapist (Vicky MacKinnon), special education teacher (Marion Lauter) and early intervention specialist (Lisa Pickens). Anjelo had wonderful therapists, teachers and educators, very wise women that provided intervention activities to support his development. They also gave us a lot of suggestions and tools to use with Anjelo on a daily bases. Anjelo’s special education teacher, Marion Lauter provided learning activities to enhance his skills and taught him how to communicate with family and friends through sign language and the use of assistive technology via computer. Anjelo is capable of making choices with pictures and/or by manipulating a machine for cause and effect. Each one of these disciplines brought their own wisdom and knowledge into our home and to Anjelo, and has showed us a whole new world of opportunities and support systems for children with disabilities and their families. Vicky, Marion and Lisa were everything a parent could want and more!
In the past two and a half years there has been tremendous growth with Anjelo. He has progressed wonderfully. He is doing things now that were hardly expected of him. Every month has been a stepping-stone for advancement for Anjelo and our family. If it weren’t for UCP Early Intervention services in Anjelo’s life, he wouldn’t be at the level he is today. We also have had the opportunity to barrow equipment from UCP Lending Library that has helped Anjelo enormously. Having United Cerebral Palsy in our lives has been a Blessing from God.
Best Wishes,
Paul, Letichia & Family
