The past few months have been very busy for our folks in the Groton Residential Program. We have had lots of parties and fun!

Everyone here enjoys outings and this one was a real treat…Anju R. and his mom Gay treated staff and clients to dinner at the Mohegan Sun and after dinner we attended the Harlem Globetrotter’s basketball game. It is always a treat to see everyone enjoy themselves and smile like they do not have a care in the world!

Halloween was a scary and fun time in Groton Residential Program. Diane W. with Lesley, Danielle and Diane D. assistance planned an awesome party. Lots of folks dressed up and enjoyed lots of goodies. The music rocked the Community room and everyone was up on their feet dancing.

All of the folks in Groton enjoyed the holidays. In early December we went to the Mystic Aquarium. The clients enjoyed the many displays of holiday lights and all of the other displays throughout the aquarium. We all enjoyed watching the penguins and fish swimming and waddling around. The feeling of serenity while watching these amazing creatures was great and we look forward to our next adventure.

All of the clients and staff in the Groton Residential Program would like to extend our appreciation to Groton Social Services who for the past four years have provided food baskets for our annual Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts. Thanks to ALL the staff that helped with the cooking and celebrations for the holidays. Diana and Cindy dressed up like the Claus’s and the clients thought this was awesome.

The clients enjoyed our Annual Sing-a-long with Steven on his guitar. Ann planned the party with Kim’s assistance. Everyone sang carols and enjoyed the food and each other’s company.

Peggy N. the Nurse brought everyone a hot dogs and beans dinner. This was her family tradition on Saturdays while growing up in Maine and she shared this with all the folks. Josephine brought in rice and beans and fried bananas to share with everyone as part of learning about her Puerto Rican heritage.

On Feb. 8th the clients enjoyed a Soul Food dinner prepared by Cynthia, Cheryl, Diane and Barbara. Everyone enjoyed all the food and also learned from Andrienne something about Black History. Andrienne had gone to the library and did research and did a fine presentation for everyone.

We had a bang up Valentine’s party planned by Anju and Diane W. Chocolates were made, grinders were ordered, goodies were prepared and our Community Room was decorated with pink, red and white hearts that everyone had made. Once again people had loads of fun dancing, singing and enjoying each others company.

We have monthly Community Meetings here and plan activates for the upcoming months. Recently Larry has been keeping the minutes for our meetings and is doing a great job. We celebrate monthly birthdays with a cake and we discuss any other concern or issue that the clients need or want to talk about.

Thanks to everyone who has assisted with all the activities.
