On Saturday, June 13, 2009, the UCP Support Group, coordinated by the Family and Individual Support Coordinator Sharon O’Brien, took a trip to the Mystic Seaport in Mystic, CT for their monthly activity.
The first item on the agenda was a sailor sing-a-long with two captains and their crew of audience members, some of which joined in with the chorus lines. The support group then took a stroll down the quaint 1800’s street of the Seaport, while stopping to visit places like an authentic 1800’s house, the local blacksmith, and the local printing press. Next, came some museum exhibits, which were home to some genuine sailor collectables.
Following the museums, the group decided to take a break and listen to some more sailor tunes and stories, some of which came from inland Maine. The final stop for this curious group of land lovers was a stop at the Seaports’ very own Reading House, where a local resident, dressed in 1800’s attire, shared stories about herself as if she was living in the 1800’s. The group had a really great time.
