11th Annual Disability Day at the Capitol Celebrating Ten Years Since US Supreme Court Olmstead Decision!

Disability affects 1 in every 5 Georgians. This annual rally is held to promote meaningful community living for Georgians with disabilities and their families. Among others, legislators are now considering issues such as Unlock the Waiting List, a proposal to offer more services more quickly for 6,500 who wait for support to allow them to live and thrive in their communities. This event is the largest one day gathering held annually at the State Capitol during the official legislative session. Since the event’s inception, it has become an inclusive event, attracting a broad cross section of Georgians of all ages with and without disabilities. At this year’s event which was held on February 25, 2009 attendees celebrated ten years of disability rights mandated nationwide by the 1999 Supreme Court Olmstead Decision. This year V103 Radio personality and host Frank Ski served as the Emcee and Brad Cohen, Public Educator, Motivational Speaker and Author of Front of the Class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the Teacher I Never Had served as the Key Note Speaker.
