The adults had a very successful and fun two days on June 28 and 29th. Our UCP Games were held on these two days at the Developmental Training Center. The competitive events were held on the first day and the awards and cook-out on the second day. The weather was very comfortable and we had plenty of food and refreshments. The events took place in the back parking lot area of the UCP building at Reed Street.
The clients practiced some of the events prior to the big day. A torch was made for carrying during the opening parade. The parade continued around the block surrounding the UCP building on Reed Street. A larger variety of events were offered this year due to having more equipment available. This year’s events included running races, wheelchair races, bean bag toss, shuffle board, ring toss, horseshoes, obstacle course, bowling, and the javelin throw.
The awards day included participants receiving medals and certificates for all the events. We enjoyed a picnic and cook-out. Hotdogs, hamburgers, salads, chips and plenty of desserts were served to everyone. Staff and individuals enjoyed music, water balloons, and the large parachute.
We would like to give a special thank you to all the parents, families, and other volunteers who participated and volunteered during these two days. We would not have been able to assist everyone with all the events if it were not for the volunteers. On July 16th, UCP along with the Mayor’s Committee and the Joliet CCDI chapter co-hosted an evening dance in the newly renovated gym at the Reed Street Center, celebrating the 17th anniversay of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. More than 125 people enjoyed a beautiful evening of food, music, dancing and fellowship.
