Accessibility Issues
Accessibility modifications including access ramps, lever door handles, lowered light switches, and widened doorways ensure that individuals with disabilities have the same access to their community as their non-disabled counterparts. The Americans with Disabilities Act requires that reasonable accommodations such as these be made in all public places. Following are some additional devices, which increase the independence of disabled persons:
Communicational tools: picture boards, speech synthesizers and word processors
Altered devices: built-up utensils, specialized switches, pencils with attached grips or large-print workbooks
Mobility tools: power or manual wheelchairs, ramps, lifts, walkers and crutches
Accessibility items: public access ramps and specialized bathrooms, lever door handles, lowered appliances, customized bathroom seats and kitchen utensils
