Belinda Savoy Receives "Can Do" Award
Belinda set a goal of selling her artwork in order to earn enough money to go to the beach in 2009. She has already created over 50 pieces, some of which have been commissioned by UCP employees, and she is happy to create her rendition of pictures supplied to her by her customers. Belinda asks everyone she meets if they would like to see her artwork and if they would be interested in purchasing an original. She knows the value of her work and sets a fair price. Belinda also took part in the UCP Frederick Day Program’s first art show, where several of her pieces were purchased, and she was featured in the Frederick Gazette.
In honor of her award, Belinda was presented with a plaque and a $100 gift certificate at UCP’s Independence Society gathering Thursday, March 19th at Linwoods Restaurant in Owings Mills, MD.
The Samuel A. Tucker Memorial Can Do award was created in 1994 in memory of Samuel Tucker, a former UCP participant with cerebral palsy who never let his disability stand in the way of achieving his goals including going to college, marrying, and becoming a practicing attorney. Nominees for the award are individuals supported by UCP who exemplify Mr. Tucker’s drive and determination to achieve their goals. The purpose is to recognize their abilities, not their disabilities. Please join us in congratulating Belinda as our "Can Do" person of the year!
Belinda proudly accepts her award.
