Looking for another way to help serve our community during the holiday season? We have just added an exciting new way that you can help make a brighter Christmas for the infants, children, youth, and adults we serve at United Cerebral Palsy of Northwest Florida! Amazon has opened up their gift registry and Wish List structure to nonprofit organizations, and we have added our very own Wish List to their site.

We hope this list gives you some ideas about what kinds of items we might need for the programs and services we provide at UCP. We just wanted to make sure you were aware of the list in case you wanted to do something for us no pressure at all, really!

Our Amazon list can be accessed directly by clicking on the link on the left or by going to the Amazon website at www.amazon.com. UCP Golf Tournament was a Success

Golf Tournament Raises more than $34,000 for Children

Over $34,000 was raised by United Cerebral Palsy of Northwest Florida Foundations first ever Network Golf Tournament. On October 10, more than 200 golfers played at Scenic Hills Golf Club in support of over 700 infants, children and youth with autism, cognitive disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, physical disability, mental retardation, spina bifida and other developmental disabilities who rely on UCP for services, encouragement, and therapies each year.

United Cerebral Palsy board members David Gaines of Goldring Gulf Distributors and Randy Bricker of Scoggins Realty served as chairs for the event. Their enthusiasm and commitment to people with developmental disabilities in Northwest Florida drove the event to a great success and established the golf tournament as one of the best in the region. The 2^nd Annual Network Tournament to benefit United Cerebral Palsy of Northwest Florida is scheduled for fall of 2009.

Major sponsors in 2008 included Goldring Gulf Distributors, Dystonia and Spasticity Clinic of Northwest Florida, Gulf Coast Community Bank, Island View Casino,Verizon, Mutual of America, AT&T Yellow Pages, and Panhandle Paving and Grading.

Fourteen restaurants provided food and beverages on the course during the morning and afternoon rounds. The Miller Girls, who acted as hostesses for the day, donated their tips to the cause. Over 100 businesses generously supported the event with sponsorships, door prizes, and raffle items. Trophies for the morning and afternoon winners were supplied by Award Masters, Inc. Volunteers from AT&T Pioneers and the community provided manpower.

Checklist Offers Guidance in Identifying Developmental Delays in Children and Youth

There are many children and youth in state care who may have developmental disabilities that have not been formally diagnosed and in turn are not receiving the services they need.

A new resource is available to help professionals identify potential developmental delays in the children with whom they are working. The Developmental Disability Checklist for Children in State Care is a simple review and reminder of what to look for and do if a child is suspected of having developmental disabilities or is at risk of developmental delays. The concise checklist can provide insight and guidance to lawyers, Guardian ad Litem, caseworkers and others working to ensure the welfare of children who have been placed in the care of the state.

The checklist was prepared for use by the Disabilities Workgroup, a committee of Florida Bar Foundation grantees, led by Florida's Children First. To access the document, please click Checklist.
