Residential Support Services
Residential Support Services offers a variety of residential services designed to make it possible for people with disabilities to live in their own homes or UCP supported housing located throughout Allegheny county. Services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. The environment of Residential Supports compliments UCP’s educational and employment programs by enhancing the notion that people with disabilities can achieve an autonomous lifestyle.
Individuals eligible to receive services experience a range of physical and cognitive disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, traumatic brain injury, stroke, visual impairments, and others. Funding may be provided by a variety of public and private sources.
Residential Supports offers alternatives to group homes and long-term care facilities by promoting maximum independence and community inclusion. Services include:
- In-home skills training
- Personal care
- Home management
- Health management/ medications
- Meal planning and preparation
- Housekeeping and laundry
- Transportation
- Community involvement
These services are provided with a focus on individuals enhancing their capacities to become as self-reliant as possible. Support services are offered 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, with a pager system used for on-call emergency support. Both long-term and short-term supports are available.
All of the services provided by our support staff focus on our mission of “Working toward a community where each belongs”. Staff works closely with individuals to discover their interests and desires regarding community involvement and activities. Each individual then receives staff support as needed, with becoming involved in activities and social/community groups. The focus is placed on facilitating relationships with other community members. All services are flexible to accommodate the schedules of the individuals served.
Before my accident, I was on the streets. With the assistance of Residential Supports, I got medical support and the counseling I needed. Now I am 24. The staff treat me like I want to be treated. They help me with money management and get me out into the community.
