Respite Care
Respitality
Respitality is a program for parents and caregivers of children and adults with special care needs.
Respitality – Care for Caregivers
The term “Respitality” is a combination of respite (a period of rest or relief) and hospitality (the act of being friendly towards guests). It offers parents and caregivers of children and adults with special needs a refreshing break.
Although Respitality doesn’t provide “child care” UCP would be happy to explore available resources.
Parents and caregivers of children and adults with disabilities often find it difficult to take a vacation. Families need both a specially-trained respite care provider, and a place to get away.
Respitality provides that place to get away. Parents and caregivers enjoy time together in rooms donated by a hotel or resort. Meals and entertainment are also provided by local restaurants and businesses. Couples have time to relax and renew their energies.
This program is not designed to provide respite care. Its purpose is to offer caregivers a “get away” while they use existing care programs or arrangements.
United Cerebral Palsy Offers Respitality to a 12 county area: Eau Claire, Chippewa, St. Croix, Dunn, Rusk, Barron, Pierce, Polk, Pepin, Trempeleau, Buffalo, and Jackson Counties.
UCP Thanks Our
Respitality Program Sponsors
For over 20 years, United Cerebral Palsy of West Central Wisconsin has been coordinating the Respitality program. It provides parents and caregivers of children and adults with special needs a refreshing break from the sometimes overwhelming tasks involved with caring for a person dealing with disabilities.
Thanks to the generosity of the Chippewa Valley business community, UCP has been able to provide this break to hundreds of couples and individuals from throughout our 12 county area of service.
Couples enjoy time together in a hotel room provided by long-time Respitality Sponsors, the Quality Inn of Eau Claire. Our thanks to owner and manager Chuck Kaiser, Jr. for his continued cooperation to help assist our families.
An artistic arrangement of flowers greets couples in their Quality Inn room courtesy of Sara Baer, owner/manager of Avalon Floral.
A delicious and elegant meal for two is waiting for our Respitality couples the evening of their arrival at one of these fine restaurants:
Sweetwater's Restaurant, managed by Larry Williams (they are one of the Charter participant business of Respitality)
Connell's Supper Club near Chippewa Falls or Connell's II in the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport, courtesy of owner/manager Lynn McDonough.
Theater tickets are available courtesy of Gene Grengs of Grengs’ Theaters for the couple to have entertainment the night of their stay.
Thanks to our friends at Green Mill Restaurant in the Holiday Inn Campus Area, couples receive a breakfast the morning after their Respitality stay.
A menu item is provided courtesy of Rollie and Sue Bemnister, owners of TCBY / A&W located in the Shopko Plaza, Eau Claire.
Our thanks to these fine folks as well as hotel property owners Dick and Tom Larson for their generosity.
Without the enthusiastic cooperation and participation of these fine businesses, UCP would not be able to provide this wonderfully relaxing and rejuvenating "Respitality" package to parents and caregivers. UCP thanks each of them for their thoughtfulness and kindness.
