Children's Services
Early Intervention
This program provides services that focus on the individual needs and overall development of children with developmental and other disabilities from birth to three (3) years of age.
Active participation by the parent/caregiver is emphasized in all aspects of the Early Intervention Program and the services offered are respectful of parental/caregiver's choice and sensitive to the family's background and culture.
Specific services include: parent/caregiver training and education, developmental assessment, infant stimulation, specialized instruction and consultation services, structured learning experiences using developmentally appropriate activities and adaptive equipment as needed. These services are provided in community settings that are familiar to the child such as their home, a sitter's home, family day care provider's home or daycare center.
Children referred to the UCP Early Intervention Program may receive a Developmental Assessment and/or regular Special Instruction. Family Education, Training and Consultation is also available, as requested, to guide and support parents and primary caregivers as they encourage individual development. The UCP Early Intervention Program participates in the development of an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) that is coordinated by Missouri's First Step system.
During the development of the IFSP, UCP assists families and other team members with determining child and family outcomes, outcome strategies, progress measurements, service need and location, and duration of services.
Early Intervention services are provided as part of the First Steps program, Missouri's early intervention system for infants and toddlers with disabilities and developmental delays.
