“United Cerebral Palsy’s Birth to Three Connections Program has been a very valuable and important program for Lexi and our family. Lexi was born with spina bifida and needed a program that would provide therapy for her motor delay. We were overjoyed when she eventually gained the skills necessary for walking independently. However, after contracting spinal meningitis last summer, she could no longer sit up, stand, or crawl. Due to the meningitis, Lexi is paralyzed in her left leg, has limited strength and movement in the right leg and has a brain shunt. Lexi has been receiving six visits a month by a physical therapist from Birth to Three. A year later, after much hard work and Lexi’s strong determination, she is now beginning to take a few steps assisted with leg braces and a walker.

Our family was devastated over the tremendous loss of Lexi’s motor skills. During this difficult time, United Cerebral Palsy has been crucial in providing our family with ongoing ideas and suggestions on how to work with Lexi in our home environment.  Our family is thankful that Birth to Three comes to our home to help work with Lexi.  They have met Lexi where her skills and abilities are, acknowledged her strengths and challenged her to work hard to overcome her physical setback. Thank you for providing such an invaluable program to families!”
