Jackie, served by UCP's Adult Supportive Services Program"I am here today because of UCP!"

"United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) plays a very important role in my life.  I have been with UCP for almost twelve years.  On November 4, 1995, during a car jacking, two teenage boys shot me in the back of the head. This has left me with a traumatic brain injury, legally blind and partially paralyzed on the right side of my body. It has been my good fortune to receive support from UCP.  It is very important to me to live my life independently. Through the assistance of UCP Adult Supportive Services, I have maintained my individuality and independence.  I hire my own support workers. They assist me with cleaning, grocery shopping, paying my bills, and transportation to doctor appointments and speaking engagements. My main goal in life is to talk to people about the choices they make. I speak to many different audiences. I speak to: high schools, middle schools, prisons, jails, police officers, judges, district attorneys, and parole/probation officers. I have been very successful about spreading a message of making good choices, forgiveness and love. United Cerebral Palsy has helped me gather the strength to speak and share my story with thousands.  I am here today because of UCP!"
